Last Thursday hubs took me to the Haunted House to celebrate my book contract and we had a great time. We were seated in a cozy room that was quiet and intimate. Our waitress was professional and the woman serving our drinks kept the wine flowing. Hubs ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly well done for him and I ordered the orange roughy, which was also cooked perfectly. My only hesitation in not giving the restaurant 5 stars is that the fish could have used a bit more seasoning because it had a strong fishy aftertaste and I ordered the wild rice and it seemed like it might have been seasoned with beef stock so I was afraid to eat it. I didn't want to kill the mood by asking what was in the rice. Since I haven't eaten meat other than fish for the last 2 years, I also didn't want to get sick on our date night, so I was still kind of hungry when we left. We have eaten at the Haunted House on a few occasions and we have always enjoyed it.

My son and I traveling to Dallas hoping to get his Visa done for moving to New Zealand found this fun place. It was so mysterious and quite a trip finding it. The atmosphere was fun and very eclectic. The food was supper yummy. It was a great fun adventure that won't be soon forgotten.

Went here for dinner last night to celebrate my birthday. I've been wanting to try it for awhile and I really didn't want to miss out on the opportunity in the event the restaurant eventually closed before we had the chance to go. We arrived at 6:30 and were the only ones there, which was a bit strange as we were on our appetizer before a second couple arrived and finally a trio arrived shortly after that. We were the only three reservations on the book for that night...middle of the week and you need to know about this place, so it wasn't too odd once we thought about it. The drive to the house was dark and the light in the parking lot was glowing in the distance...that added to the creep factor. Once we arrived and went inside, I was taken with the old home...the bar area has a beautiful fireplace and I love the balcony that opens to the room from above. Very elegant. I bet this was a beautiful home back in the day! This restaurant was established in 1964 and I love that it's stayed true to it's roots. I have not had melba toast in ages and I loved it...so old school. (I added it to our grocery list once we got home). We ordered the shrimp appetizer to start, since another reviewer called it "Legendary". While the cocktail sauce was pretty good, I don't know how it's been so highly billed. For our entrees, I ordered the fillet and my husband ordered the chicken breast and we both had the baked potato as our side. The steak was tender and flavorful and the chicken had a cream madeira sauce with mushrooms that was very tasty as well...and a huge serving as well! During our entree the chef came out to wish me a happy birthday and see if everything was cooked to order. I thought that little personal touch was great! The only thing I was not happy with was the house wine...I had a cab and the hubby had a pinot noir. House wines are always hit or miss, but there is a simple solution....just pick out a bottle from their list and you'll be good to go. We just weren't in a position to drink the same wine with our meals, so we went with a glass instead. For dessert we shared a piece of rum cake and it was very good. I had to savor it over a cup of coffee...and in my family this is a very good thing. It's our way of making something good last a bit longer. All in all, the meal was goo and I would love to go back in the Summer when the sun is shining longer so I can see the outside of the home better. For those looking for a ghostly encounter...sorry, the house has a history, but nothing lingers. Enjoy the food, the history of the house, and your dining companion(s).

We didn't know what to expect but we chose this restaurant because of its funky ad in a local tourist magazine. The ad's uniqueness drew us in. The road to the restaurant is very narrow and poorly paved. Each side of the road is crowded with Junipers and huge trees and bushes....and it becomes part of the draw. We drove in and we're pleased to see other cars in the lot. (by the end of the evening the lot was full). The interior of the restaurant was cozy and subdued. Frank Sinatra played in the background. The hostess left us alone when we did not order alcohol...the waitresses were pleasant and punctual. Even though the salad was over dressed, the entries were excellent and tasty. The coffee was mellow and the chocolate mousse cake was yummy. Next time I'm in OKC I will return to this unique restaurant. Oh...and finally I am sad to report there were no spooks at our table ....the restaurant may be haunted but the spirits left us alone during our meal. Next time I expect spiritual company. :-)

The Haunted House is a special restaurant that I always turn to for occasions requiring an amazing meal paired with an exceptional experience but I mustn't fail to mention that the Haunted House is particularly sentimental for me. Growing up, it was the epicenter (for lack of a better term) of my father's go-to dinner spots for special occasions such as birthdays, first communions, etc. If we were being taken to the Haunted House, there was a reason and it was special every time. The Haunted House is a private steakhouse and reservations are always required. It is particularly hard to find unless you've been there before. You will follow a slender, spooky dirt/gravel road leading to a home. The house is old, dimly lit and creaky and don't be surprised if you are greeted by the owner upon arrival. You'll be seated and will be able to read about the tragedy of the unsolved murders which make this restaurant "the Haunted House." Before the bathroom upstairs was re-done, it was especially creepy after reading that a woman was once found dead in it. I used to never be able to go to the bathroom by myself there. There aren't really any vegetarian items on the menu to speak of (unless you are a pescetarian) but I simply ask the server for a vegetarian pasta. The head chef will come out and speak with you and accommodate your dietary needs and you'll end up with a delicious dish like I do every time. When I did eat meat, I ordered the filet mignon and it was consistently exquisite. Definitely start with their unique house salad and don't forget to finish with one of their amazing desserts, such as the Brandy Ice to top off your night. The Haunted House is not cheap and expect to stay for a couple hours but when you're finished, you will be planning your next visit to this restaurant...guaranteed. The Haunted House is definitely one of OKC's best kept secrets.

The experience begins when you turn off of Martin Luther. "Which road is it?" "Is it this one?" "Are you sure?" "I hope this is it." The long drive way leads you to a house way back in the sticks of OKC. The property is beautiful. The staff was attentive and friendly. After walking through the second set of doors, you are greeted by the owner who has been expecting you. There is no drink on earth she can not make. Our order was taken and we were told we may feel free to wonder around the house and take a look before our good arrives. Like I said before, the house is beautiful. The food, however, my lobster was not worth 50.00. The chef really likes celery (not my thing). And you must be weary of your steak being cooked well-done. The restaurant is not responsible for such a thing. I feel as if that is what may have happened to my lobster. It was like chewing on rubber. The potato soup was very good. The rack of lamb was delicious, 45.00, and delicious. The chicken, I was told was good. The rolls were tasty. And the shrimp cocktail was the best I have ever had. My bill was almost mind blowingly high. If I had not ordered a drink, it may have been less than 100.00. I would visit again, only maybe to just have drinks and something small to eat. :) Nothing paranormal happened while we were there, if you don't count the lobster being over cooked, but maybe next time.

If I had an option to give this place a rating of zero I would have done it. My wife and I had heard about the Haunted House Restaurant and thought it would be fun to try for Valentine's Day. We arrived about an hour early for our reservation and figured we'd have a drink or two at the bar before dinner. This is where it all went south. We were informed by quite possibly the rudest person I've ever met that it was a service bar only. There were maybe a total of only 6 to 8 other guests in the restaurant at this time, yet we received no welcome or greeting of any kind, no offer to serve us drinks while we waited for our reservation, regardless of whether or not it was an open bar, nothing. First, I misunderstood what type of bar it was when I read some reviews online before making the reservation. My mistake. No big deal, right - at least not for my wife and I? Wrong! This woman, who claims to be part of the ownership family, proceeded to mumble under her breath and talk down to us as if we were the village idiots. In front of the staff she loudly and rudely told us that "this was a bad night to think of that plan!" Never in my life would I have expected to be scolded for mistaking a service bar for an open bar. The poor hostess looked at us as if to say, "I'm so sorry you're being treated this way but there's absolutely nothing I can do about it." Even after reading the reviews about the so-so food quality, high prices and hit and miss service, we were still willing to give it a try due to the nostalgia factor. After stepping into the entrance to the restaurant I can honestly tell anyone who will listen that the hostess podium will be the farthest my wife and I ever go. Saying that we will never return is being too generous. It's ashamed that one, rude, classless and unappreciative woman can paint such a picture for an entire establishment, but that is exactly what happened here. For us, it's so long, Haunted House Restaurant, we hardly knew ye! Would not recommend to my worst enemy! Thankfully all was not lost, even though it was Valentine's Day, we were able to dine in the bar of another great local restaurant that genuinely appreciated our business.

Unique classic in OKC. Same menu & Miriam the hostess year after year. Over-priced but should be tried at least once. Nothing spectacular but the hidden location, long drive from the street & story of murder add to the ambience.

I think this is a must see Restaurant!! The atmosphere had a spooky old house feeling and the owner even let us walk around and look at the house. She let us walk upstairs and look around by ourselves and take our drinks outside which i found especially nice. I gotta say that the owner makes the BEST Manhattan's I've ever had. It's pretty expensive, but i found it well worth it for the 2hrs we enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, dinner, and a most delicious dessert over. The food was outstanding too! It was a great time. Perfect :)

My fiancé took me here to celebrate our three years anniversary. He made me close my eyes until we got there and I trace the directions in my head thinking we were going to Gabriella's but he completely surprised me! We were greeted by a sweet older lady who was hard of hearing so at times we had to speak loudly. The menu didn't have very many items. I ordered the lamb and he ordered the steaks. The lamb was amazing! It comes with this green jello like sauce and the rice had a hint of rosemary that made it so flavorful! The baked potato was alright. I had the tumbleweed for desserts and it contained alcohol... I can't remember what but it was so good! We walked around to take pictures and explore. I am a menu reader so I read about the history of the restaurant. Very interesting and I am appreciative that we got to spend our anniversary evening together at the Haunted House.
